Chemical Engineering

Kylie Trettner is a 5th year Chemical Engineering PhD Candidate in the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. She graduated summa cum laude with Outstanding Student Honors (top 1% of graduating class) from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in chemical engineering and a minor in applied statistics. She researches the relationship between external, mechanical forces in the cellular microenvironment and pancreatic cancer disease progression. To do this, she invented and patented a custom microscope stage insert to utilize a novel, magnetic material to dynamically alter the matrix surrounding the 3D tissue culture cancer model.

She currently serves as the WiSE AB President after previously serving as the WiSE Ambassador for the Viterbi Graduate Student Association. In her free time you can find her running all over West LA and in the Santa Monica mountains as she trains for marathons.
